Food Forests
The City installed two food forest demonstration sites in 2025 to provide publicly accessible, edible landscapes in Saskatoon. Leif Erickson Park and Boughton Park were selected as the highest priority sites, based on criteria including land availability and neighbourhood-level food insecurity.
Plants on site are still being established. Food Forests will be open to the public in spring 2028. Stay tuned!
This project is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Natural Infrastructure Fund.
Please note: This project was moved from our previous engagement website, and some of the tools and information may appear different than originally designed or other projects on this platform.
Phases
Demonstration Site Design
Based on community feedback, the City of Saskatoon worked with a consultant to develop park and food forest designs for Boughton Park and Leif Erickson Park.
Information Sessions
The City hosted a Come & Go Information Sessions for residents to view the updated designs, ask questions and provide feedback on the revised designs for the food forests, irrigation and naturalization improvements, and park upgrades.
Two information sessions were held:
- Boughton Park upgrade at the St. John School (Gymnasium), 1205 Avenue N South, on February 7, 2024, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m
- Leif Erickson Park Upgrade at the Westmount School (Library), 411 Avenue J North, on February 8, 2024, from 7 to 8:00 p.m.
