Food Forests

The City installed two food forest demonstration sites in 2025 to provide publicly accessible, edible landscapes in Saskatoon. Leif Erickson Park and Boughton Park were selected as the highest priority sites, based on criteria including land availability and neighbourhood-level food insecurity.

Plants on site are still being established. Food Forests will be open to the public in spring 2028. Stay tuned!

Establishment of Food Forest Demonstration Sites

Installation in Boughton Park and Leif Erickson Park began in late 2024 and was substantially completed in fall 2025.

Plants on site are still being established. Food Forests will be open to the public in spring 2028. Stay tuned!


Leif Erickson Park Construction Update

  • Site ceremony was led by the Survivor's Circle before construction began.
  • Plants and trees were planted.
  • Seating area was completed.
  • Pathways and irrigation system were installed.
  • Water access for community garden was installed.
  • New sidewalk was installed along Rusholme Rd.
  • Site interpretive signage will be installed in late 2026.
  • Ongoing site/plant establishment in 2026-27.


Boughton Park Construction Update

  • Site ceremony was led by the Survivor's Circle before construction began.
  • Plants and trees were planted.
  • Seating area was completed.
  • Pathways, irrigation system, new sod, and new playground were installed.
  • Improved water access for community garden was installed.
  • Tree bluffs were thinned to enhance site lines.
  • Site interpretive signage will be installed in late 2026.
  • Ongoing site/plant establishment 2026-27.
