Terms & Conditions

By visiting and participating on this platform as a registered or unregistered user, you agree to accept these Terms & Conditions.

These Terms & Conditions outline the rules and guidelines for using this platform and are meant to help ensure a constructive online community. They directly align with other City standards, including our Community Expectations and Guidelines for Social Media and our Customer Conduct Standard.

Creating an account on Engage Saskatoon

Anyone is able to view public projects via the platform.

If you’d like to contribute content (e.g., provide input, vote, complete a survey), you may need to register and create an account. This aids in creating trust and accountability on the platform while also allowing you to stay up-to-date on the status of your contributions.

You can register using your e-mail address or by using an existing Facebook or Google account. If you register using an existing account (ex: Facebook or Google), your name, email address and profile photo from these accounts will be added to your platform account. More information on your personal data can be found in our privacy policy.

There are optional demographic questions in registration that are used to understand who we are reaching through our engagements. This information is confidential and will never be shared for use outside the platform. Demographic reach may be reported but only through summarizing available data (ex: 80% of participants were from City Park, 25% of participants self-identified as Indigenous). This information helps us understand who we are reaching, understand trends, and identify barriers or challenges certain groups of people may be experiencing to improve our services.

Please note that the creation of your account does not give you ownership over the account. Platform administrators can refuse, suspend or delete accounts that do not adhere to the terms and conditions outlined on this page. If desired, you can also delete your account at any time in your Settings.

The general conditions for your account are the following:

  • You may create one account: An individual may not create and maintain multiple accounts. The account details you provide must be accurate and this account cannot be transferred to someone else without our permission.
  • Your account cannot be used for commercial promotion: An account may not be used for the purpose of advertising, marketing a product or service, etc.
  • You are responsible for keeping your account information secure and confidential: You are the only person who should use your account and have access to your account’s password and login details. We are not responsible for any loss or damage incurred to your account and cannot be held responsible for its theft (e.g., via phishing). Note that we will never ask you for your log-in details such as your password.


Your activity on the platform

To ensure a respectful and harassment-free forum for the public and our employees, there are some restrictions on the type of content that may be published on this platform.

Any content you post on the platform must be free of:

  • Profane, obscene, violent, or pornographic content or language;
  • Promotion, fostering or perpetuation of discrimination on the basis of race, creed, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin;
  • Defamatory, hateful or personal attacks;
  • Threats to any person or organization;
  • Content that contains links to third-party information;
  • Spam or content that is provided multiple times by the same party or similar content that is provided multiple times by different parties;
  • Solicitation of commerce, not related to City business or initiatives;
  • Content in violation of any Canadian law;
  • Encouragement of illegal activity;
  • Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems;
  • Content that violates intellectual property rights;
  • Content considered inappropriate by the City;
  • Comments that are inaccurate, misleading, off-topic, or involve the spread of misinformation or disinformation regarding City services, programs, and operations; or
  • Content that provides any non-public information about the City or its employees.

Submissions and other content that includes any of the above may be deleted or prevented from being posted publicly. Reporting engagement results may also include a summary of feedback that breached these Terms and Conditions. If so, data will be summarized and not include any identifying information (ex: 15% of responses had discriminatory remarks).

A user account may be temporarily blocked or permanently deleted without warning if regular or consistent breaching of the guidelines occurs, or if a user is suspected to not be representing themself. New or additional accounts created to avoid suspension may also be monitored and deleted.


Applicable laws

The use of an account may not infringe upon any applicable laws. This includes any violation of privacy legislation, intellectual property rights, the criminal code, etc.

As per the Privacy Policy, all personal information that is collected by the City of Saskatoon, whether through this website or by other means, is managed according to The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

We cannot be held liable in any way for content posted on the platform that does not adhere to the above rules and laws, or any harmful downloadable files or hyperlinks that are contained within that content. Violations can be reported to support@govocal.com and may result in the relevant messages being deleted and/or the underlying account being suspended or permanently revoked.


Disclosure

Your comments or messages may be saved and may become part of the City of Saskatoon's official records. By agreeing to interact with the official City of Saskatoon engagement software, Engage Saskatoon, you consent to the following terms;

  • The personal information you post may be collected by The City of Saskatoon under The Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (LAFIOP), as per the platform’s Privacy Policy.
  • You agree to grant The City an irrevocable non-exclusive, royalty-free, sub-licensable, transferrable license to use, publish, alter, edit, reproduce, create derivative works from, and display the content post/submission (including any personal information therein), in any form, in connection with the business operations of The City of Saskatoon; and
  • You must have permission to use the name and/or likeness of each identifiable individual in your submissions.


Property rights

This platform is protected by intellectual property rights related to its content, source code, databases, documents, images, etc. Any original content that you submit to the platform may be visible to the public and falls under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) Public License, which allows your content to be shared or adapted with attribution. You may not otherwise reproduce, distribute, modify or transmit the platform and any of its contents that do not fall under the public domain without permission.
